Product Description
Japanese director/actor Kitano Takeshi ("Beat Takeshi", "Battle Royale") finds himself back at the forefront of both domestic and international film worlds with his newest film "Zatoichi"! Through the momentum of its international premiere at the 60th Venice Film Festival in 2003, where it garnered the Silver Lion award for Best Director, and the Toronto Film Festival, where it took the People's Choice award, Zatoichi appears poised to turn Kitano into a household name on an international scale.
Based on one of Japan's most famous film characters, the movie tells the story of the blind masseur/master swordsman "Zatoichi". Wandering into a town ruled by corrupt officials and a gang of rough mobsters, he comes across a wandering samurai named Hattori (Asano Tadanobu), who is working for the mobsters in order to pay for treatment for his ailing wife. His circle of friends widens when he strikes up a relationship with the beautiful sisters Osei and Okinu, who pretend to be dancers as they plot their revenge for the murder of their parents. As the story progresses, the tension builds gradually to a boiling head, exploding in a fantastic ending that will leave you longing for multiple viewings!
