Product Description
The only thing wrong with this series is that it has been supersceded by the wealth of more modern Patlabor material. The decent but aged animation, the strictly episodic nature of the stories, and some weaknesses in writing, make this seem more like an experiment and foundation, than a complete product in itself. Anime historians may be interested to note that all the characters are here and well formed, as is the environment, but the pressure of the stories leads to their being little character work. Finally story 3 and 4 are brave but flawed, and the plot over episode 5 and 6 is too ambitious for the time allowed. Accept this one as the foundation, but the TV series and the second OAV series are probably a better way to be introduced to the wonders of patlabor.
